Bucher Municipal streamlines winter maintenance portfolio
Bucher Municipal, a division of Bucher Industries, is selling its airport snow sweeper and Rolba snow blower unit to Swiss-based Zaugg AG Eggiwil. The parties have agreed not to disclose the sales price.

Bucher Municipal is focusing its winter maintenance business on series produced spreaders and snow ploughs and is selling its project business for airport snow sweepers and Rolba snow blowers to Zaugg AG Eggiwil, a specialised Swiss company. Project business has caused sales to fluctuate greatly over the past years. In 2009, Bucher Municipal generated sales of some CHF 18 million with this unit employing 36 people. The sale is scheduled for completion on 1 May 2010. The parties have agreed not to disclose the sales price.

Zaugg AG Eggiwil, is a Swiss company geared to fulfilling customers' individual wishes, making it excellently positioned to acquire the airport snow sweeper and Rolba snow blower project business. Furthermore, the acquired products fully complement the attachments and mounted equipment that Zaugg makes for municipal vehicles, primarily for snow removal. Zaugg will combine the acquired unit with the products currently at the Eggiwil site. Customer service and spare parts will continue to be provided without interruption by Zaugg. After a certain transitional period, it is expected that only a few employees will move from Niederweningen to Eggiwil in the Emmental Valley.

Niederweningen employees affected by the sale will have the opportunity to join the competence centre for Bucher Schoerling municipal vehicles and continue working in similar functions. This solution was made possible by last year's transfer of the truck mounted sweeper purchasing and assembly operations from Hanover, Germany, to Niederweningen because only few employees moved from Hanover to Switzerland.
